For tips and instructions on making the cat from start to finish, check out this site:
www5a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mite/gurumineko/4/index.html It is in Japanese, but you can cut and paste the URL to this website translator: www.worldlingo.com/en/websites/url_translator.html Go to the links under "knitting figure" and you'll find the row-by-row crochet instructions. Don't fail to check out all other links on the same page as they give visual aids to putting everything together. Have fun!

I've posted a rough translation at http://ax174.blogspot.com/2006/04/amineko-pattern.html.

i want to comment on TRANSLATED AMINEKO PATTERN BY RAMBLINGS IN A BLACK DREESSS...I WAS upset to see her selling this pattern months ago stating it was her own and now that its free again she still claims it is hers just cause she translates it does not mean she is the creator of the amineko...shame on her...we can all get a translation on babelfish and still give credit where it is due ..i am very upset with this person in a black dress!
Posted by: xxx at May 28, 2006 05:29 PM
Hi xxx, I don't know about any selling of the pattern, but she is offering it free now, and with a link to the original. Babelfish is imperfect, and I don't think it's a problem to offer a translation as long as the original is linked. Thanks for your concern, though!
Posted by: Maitreya at May 28, 2006 06:24 PM
thank you the only concern with the black dress is that if you read on her blog carefully you will see that she wants the credit for herself saying that the pattern is hers...Copyright info: (c) 2006 by me. You may use this patten as much as you want. You may NOT distribute this pattern (paper copy, forum, etc.) to others but you can link them here. You may NOT republish this pattern elsewhere, but you can link to it here. You may create these items and sell them, as long as I am credited with the pattern and I'm linked here. Although this pattern may be a translation or altered from other patterns, it is enough of my own to call it my own. Origional inspirations are credited where credit is due. now this is what the author nekoyama says:Warranty and Copyright;
All patterns ON this web page were all designed by me, Nekoyama and are copyrighted.
Feel free to download these patterns to make dolls for yourself and your family or friends as a present. Please do so.
And you can also give the downloaded patterns to your family or friends as a present.
The patterns ON this web page and dolls which you make using the patterns should NOT be sold or made into kits.
DO NOT use these patterns or images to put ON your own web page or blog.
DO NOT link to the patterns or images ON this web page directly, using my server. If you would like your visitors to see my patterns or images and please link to http: //www5a.biglobe.ne.jp/ - Mite/index.html.
However, you are allowed to put your dolls, which you make for your personal use and ON your own web page or blog if you clearly show all copyrights are reserved by Nekoyama.
so as you can see the black dress's intentions are no good saying it is hers

xxx, I feel the same way about Black Dress. She's posted at Craftster (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=87570.msg839563#msg839563) saying that she modified the pattern and that's why she's charging for it. However, lawyer-knitter Girl From Auntie says on her web site (http://girlfromauntie.com/copyright/index.php/91/): "The fact that you’ve improved on the original does not mean that you’ve made the pattern your “own". The rewritten pattern, with your improvements or changes, is probably still a derivative work and not sufficiently original to you to avoid being an infringement."

The designer has posted the pattern in English on her web site:
Posted by: ax174 at May 31, 2006 08:45 AM
i emailed nekoyama about the situation and she is upset and has contacted the black dress ...i have emails saved to prove this and i hope that this gets resolved...it is not fair to nekoyama who is the original designer and creator of the little kitty....nekoyama deserves all the credit and was really nice enuff to share with all of us her amineko on her website.,...shame on ANYONE who wants to take that away from her....just because you can translate a pattern does not mean it's yours....

what a lovely family of cats!!!!

don't you guys feel sorry for the kinky black dress?????i do....she is the type of person that tries to fit in real hard and does anything to do just that even if it means to do something very illegal like stealing copyrights ...etc
i do agree it's not the right thing to do but i think she just wants to fit in bady
i don't think that this website should reference her out of respect to the original designer NEKOYAMA...i think referencing to the black dress when she states that it's her pattern and was selling it for her own profit is very disrespectful
if anyone can surely see...NEKOYAMA has on her website a new english translation in which as clear as day shows that the black dress has is not true to the amineko pattern...
Posted by: xyz at June 10, 2006 12:52 PM
i couldn't agree more with xyz
Posted by: abc at June 10, 2006 12:54 PM
WHAT A CONTROVERSY!!!! we should keep true to the japanese craft and peoples rights ... theft is a crime...and SOME PEOPLE DON'T CARE! THEY even steal from their own moms....don't let THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS DO THIS ...must she get away with something this serious....and poor designer NEKOYAMA who in good faith shared with all of us on her website the amineko....referencing us to the black dress is not right...especially when the black dress claims the pattern as her own and sees no problem with what she's doing...which is not fair to nekoyama
i hope that what is happening to nekoyama never happens to anyone who is for this black dress.
Posted by: too bad at June 10, 2006 01:04 PM
Funny, because I never got any email from Nekoyama. I would love to see these saved emails. Yes, I took the pattern I found posted in Japaneese on another site, and Babelfished it to get an idea of what to do. When I got that fractured translation, I took what I had, and added my own steps.
In my blog, I link the Japaneese pattern, as well as babelfish. Anyone who reads that post knows where I got the original idea, and what I used to translate it. Le chat qui coud said himself....it's not the "true" pattern. I'm not doing this to fit in anywhere, I did it because when I searched for an English version of the pattern, there was none. Instead of keeping my version of the pattern to myself, I shared with others.

dear confused black dress
what you need to do is honor the request of the original designer whom is NEKOYAMA...THAT IS WHO IS CREDIT IS DUE TO...NOT YOU....AND YOU NEED TO KNOW THAT IT IS ILLEGAL TO TAKE A COPYRIGHTED PATTERN FOR YOUR OWN AND MUCH LESS SELL IT AND MAKE A PROFIT FROM IT... but truly credit my dear is not due to you....but to nekoyama who has copyrighted her design...
maybe you should make the author an apology and credit her for her creation as she requests on her website...
if you have not read it she has revised the copyright...here http://www5a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mite/index.html
maybe you should take a look if you haven't recently...
good luck black dress
we donot hate you we just
all hope that you will be honest to all of us and do what's right....

this is really sad
it appears that she doesn't care.or is even in the least bit sorry
Posted by: xyz at June 11, 2006 12:34 AM
I am not selling the pattern, so no money is being made off of it.
If Nekoyama has an issue with my version of a pattern, that person should e-mail me themselves. The fact that none of the people here have used a valid email address, or even a real name, tells me that you are just here to make problems, and not actually resolve anything.
I am not sorry for offering a free pattern to others - which is also being done by other links listed here. Why have you chosen me to attack?
Bottom line, if the owner of this site has a problem with my pattern, they would remove it. If Nekoyama has a problem with my pattern, he would email me. It's none of your jobs to anonymously berate me. Get over yourselves.

I think this is enough discussion of this particular topic. I stand by my comment from earlier in the thread, and both sides have now gotten their chance to state their opinions. If the comments continue in the personal attacks, I'll have to start removing them. If you have anything else useful to say that actually adds something instead of repeating what's already been said, I would request that you use a valid email address. People can legitimately have different opinions on these tricky issues, and it can be constructive to debate them once in a while.

If anyone knows how to email Nekoyama, could you forward this ebay link to her http://stores.ebay.com/DebbiesCreativeCrafts
It looks like someone is violating her copyright again.

This latest copyright thing is totally unrelated to the site. Crafting Japanese is for people to show off what they make from Japanese craft patterns, not for unmasking random eBayers. And remember what I said about valid email addresses? Enough already.

I was just wondering where you purchased these books? I live in Michigan and it's very hard to find the amigurumi series so any online site that I can purchase them from would be helpful. Thanks for your time and by the way, your stuff ROCKS!!!

How can I order this book in Canada? I like cats. Do you have other Japanese fun-craft books?
