* Book Off

Thank you Mary I, who commented on my Japan in New York post about the Japanese used book store Book Off. I made it up there today and it was fantastic. It’s at 14 E 41st between Madison and 5th Ave, and the deals are truly amazing. I got a couple of craft books for $4 each, way less than the ~$15-$20 I’d pay for them new. Plus, they had several of the elusive Dayan/Wachifield books, also for cheap. Book Off is apparently a chain, but I unfortunately can’t find a (English) list of their other locations.

    hey, i looked at the japanese site and there appear to be 6 locations out of japan. 5 in the US and one in paris. here’s the link: http://www.bookoff.co.jp/shops/kaigai01.html. if you want the other locations, just replace the “01″ after “kaigai” (which means overseas) with “02″, “03″, etc. looks like the locations are honolulu, new york city, LA, costa mesa, hartsdale ny, and paris. there are maps. i agree - i like bookoff. good prices.

    I have some Japanese how-to knit books that I bought some 20 years ago when I had absolutely NO money. They are still my favorites.
