Advent day 11: crochet
I’ve done enough amigurumi now to make up stuff. I did most of this snowman on the train ride from Boston yesterday. He’s about 2 inches tall, done with crochet thread.

I’m learning to crochet at a local yarn shop in the new year and things like this little cutie are exactly why. I love it!

Totally genius! I SUCK at crochet. I swear it will take me at least a year to make an amigurumi eggplant.

Can you post a profile shot, or tell us how you did the nose?
Ladies, you have made me so happy… I am so tired of the local knit-snobbery and it is good to hear someone want to crochet, especially something other than a poncho!
Crocheting is not any harder than knitting (in fact I am finding knitting much more difficult to learn). You only need 2 stitches (chain and single crochet, abbreviated “ch” and “sc”) to do this kind of shape, plus increasing & decreasing. The excellent website http://www.stitchguide.com/stitches/crochet/ has movies of every stitch.

He is so cute. I’m really want to make these cute little figures but they look so difficult. Thanks Korinthe for the link. I’m off to check it out.

Thanks for all the nice comments! Crochet is really easy for those of you thinking of learning it. I’m self taught from a book. Hell, I learned amigurumi from a book I can’t even read. He’s only my third amigurumi. The nose, eyes, and buttons are all beads, and the background is a fabric scrap I got in a swap.
