My cheery clover web theme got annoying awful quick, especially with it getting colder here, so time for a redesign. Doesn’t it seem warmer already? And look, I finally made a banner. It only took me, what 3 and a half years? I liked cutting out the little letters; now I want to make a font of them to go with my redwork font that I finished but never fontified. One of these days…

Oh, and I updated my bloggy links. Enjoy

The yellow was looking a little too bright lately, so I redesigned the site. My mac calls the color “honeydew.” The clover background pattern is by me, inspired by my favorite notions company and a tshirt I got at Delia’s, of all places. I’m so pleased with it, I’m thinking of printing it up as fabric once my Bubble Jet Set order arrives from Joann’s (on sale this week!) RSS friends, stop by and take a look!

On the sidebar, I culled some links and updated the list of new additions.

On my shoplinks page, I added a new category for places I’ve actually bought stuff from. I was going to do a whole post of what I bought from each, but it was taking too long and some of the things have been discontinued anyway.

* Yellow and White (and some Brown)

Posted on April 3rd, 2006 by maitreya. Filed under Random.

I love it when a bunch of people spontaneously hit upon the same creative idea all at once. I’ve been working on this redesign, using the color scheme of my coffee press cozy I made a while back. And lo and behold, what appears in my mailbox, but the new issue of Martha Stewart Weddings. Lordy, what a good issue. One of my favorite features is “perfect palettes” at the front of each issue. This month’s is yellow and white and completely lovely. And then, this month’s tie one on theme is yellow and white. Now I pretty much have to make an apron to match my blog. ETA: so, I finish writing this post, click on over to see what Wee Wonderfuls is up to, and find that she has also just posted a whole thing about yellow too! ETA again: aha, I see, it was yellow Monday. Who knew? :)

I went pretty simple with the redesign since I’ve been coming close to my bandwidth limit lately, but I am really happy with it. My sister had a great post the other day decrying the blogger-ification of web design, that everybody’s page more or less looks the same now. Of course, she’s in the midst of redesigning her page too, so I can’t seem to find the post now. Anyway, I’m afraid my new design does not break any new ground, but there’s a neat blog design contest going on that might help. The contest even has a whole category for hobby and crafts.

Anyway, more about the Weddings issue. Let’s see, I want this one flower girl dress by Flora and Henri for myself. There’s also a cute article on making tissue paper flowers, which is conveniently on her website. And you will not believe what a fantastic wedding Lena Corwin had. Oh my gosh, it’s So Good. You seriously won’t believe it. It was pretty neat reading about her in the magazine and “knowing” her from her site, too.

* craft library update

Posted on March 27th, 2006 by maitreya. Filed under Random.

I added a few new books to the library page. I finally broke down and bought The New Crewel since it was taking forever to come back in at the library. I’m glad I did because it’s a lovely book that is worth owning. Plus I finally added my quilting books that everybody else on the internet seems to own, and a funny sock creature book my sister got me for Christmas.

I also updated Crafting Japanese with all my projects from the last few months, including the corsage book from the last post, and tiny embroidery tiny garden for anybody who heard me mention it in my podcast interview.

Craftypod interviewed me for her nifty podcast! We talked mainly about Japanese craft books, but ended up ranging into bloggy territory as well. I haven’t mustered up the courage to listen to it yet. :)

* shoplinks update

Massive update to the shop links page. I added almost 100 sites!

One other housekeeping thing I’ve been meaning to mention, I get tagged by people every now and again. I’m just not so into memes, so I hope you won’t mind if I don’t participate. Thanks for thinking of me though!

I updated+reorganized my crafty blogs links page and the artists sections on the artists/shops page. New ones in bold.

* Craft-o-lutions

Posted on January 5th, 2006 by maitreya. Filed under Random.

Man, I must’ve had a good vacation to not craft+post for 2 weeks. I’ll be adding a whole bunch of Crafting Japanese updates over the next few days and I’m finally going to update my neglected links pages. I’ve been itching for a new site design too.

Longer term, here are some crafty things I’ve got in mind for 2006, craft-o-lutions, if you will:

  • Sew a baby quilt version of a Denyse Schmidt quilt. One of the solids patterns in aqua, tan, and cream.
  • Knit socks. A fantastic sock knitting kit was my backtack surprise from Little Purl of the Orient, then my dad got me a Red Cross sock knitting kit for my birthday, but have I knit any socks yet? I have not.
  • Sew together my first sweater, the pieces of which have been finished and serving as a kitty bed for like 6 months now.
  • Make something for my husband that he will like.
  • Finish the third of my weed garden embroideries and hang them up.
  • Sew myself some clothes.
  • Partipate in more group projects (more on these later).
  • Explore more crafty stores in New York.
  • Make a felted scarf.

Should keep me busy. :)

* library update

Posted on September 3rd, 2005 by maitreya. Filed under Random.

I updated my library page with a few new books. There are 4 new Japanese craft books, including the ones I used for the amigurumi bunny and the embroidered purse, in case you were dying to know. There’s also a cute felting pamphlet I got from The Paper Princess, Rubber-Sol‘s cute shop. She also included a nice note and some wonderful free sample cards that have now taken up residence on my bulletin board. Oh, and I added links to the appropriate Crafting Japanese pages, too.

I also finally bought my own copy of Audrey Ormrod’s Exploring Cross-Stitch (gushed over previously in this entry). It was ridiculously cheap used on Amazon and now I can quit monopolizing the library copy.
