Along the same lines as the subverted days-of-the-week dish towels from the Arts and Crafts Museum, here are Female Merit Badges. I think I will make myself a thesis defense badge.

* paper wallet

Posted on May 20th, 2003 by maitreya. Filed under Martha.

After a hiatus, I’m back up to my craftiness. (My thesis is out of my hands now, for a while anyway.) My little sister just graduated from college and is seriously in need of cash, so that’s what I’m giving her as a gift. But how boring is a check in a card? I remembered a Martha article from a few years ago (December 2000, I think) about wrapping money. She had a cute wallet made from paper, which I modified. It turned out pretty well. I sewed all the layers together on my sewing machine, but it’s still fragile. I doubt it will last long, but it’s good for giftwrap.

I think this is cute, although I have no idea what I’d do with it. Someone was selling it on EBay.

* Gocco

I must get one of these things. A Gocco mini-silk-screen sort of printing device. Some of my favorite artists are printmakers (Tom Killion, Patricia Curtan, Gustave Baumann, letterpresses of all sorts) or serographers (Kathleen Lipinski). I’ve been playing with eraser carving lately, but this looks way cooler.
