* More felt flowers
Posted on August 27th, 2003 by maitreya. Filed under Inspiration.
Coincidentally, I found two sites with cute felt flowers today, the supermaggie post before this one, and Posie, which has bags and skirts with felt flowers on them.
* felted flowers and scarves
Posted on August 27th, 2003 by maitreya. Filed under Inspiration.
The felt flowers and scarves at supermaggie are just too cool. I am being optimistic and filing this post under “to imitate,” but I really wouldn’t know how. Unfortunately, her site won’t let me steal graphics, so I can’t put a picture up. Now that I live in a cold climate again I have a good excuse to make scarves.
[edit: Score! Supermaggie herself is on Crafter’s Coast to Coast on HGTV and actually shows her scarf-making technique! Instructions here.]
* Petri dish moving boxes
Posted on August 26th, 2003 by maitreya. Filed under Fun with Lab Supplies.
We’re moving yet again, and this time we’re doing it ourselves instead of hiring people. The best moving tip discovery so far has been to use the boxes that Petri dishes come in. They have this nice grid of cardboard dividers that keep all the glasses and bottles from breaking. It saved a lot of careful packing effort.
* rubber band board
Posted on August 18th, 2003 by maitreya. Filed under Inspiration.
I’ve seen this idea twice now, in the Pottery Barn Teen catalog and at the MOMAQNS gift shop: bulletin boards made out of a piece of metal or plastic with big rubber bands stretched over it. The MOMA one had brightly colored rubber bands in a stripe arrangement, and the Pottery Barn one had little nails around the edge of a round board, with the rubber bands crossing every which way.
* cross stitch box
Posted on August 18th, 2003 by maitreya. Filed under Cross Stitch/Embroidery.
I got the kit for this box at a cute store in Cambria, California called Flying Fuzzies. After working on it on and off for a few months, it was about half done. Then I had the bright idea, about a week before the event, to give it as a wedding gift. 20 hours in 4 days of cross stitching later…
It also has a big pinwheel on the bottom, but I forgot to scan it in before I gave it away.

* Gift tags
Posted on August 3rd, 2003 by maitreya. Filed under Holiday, Paper Crafts, Projects with Instructions.
This is the first “to imitate” post that I’ve actually imitated. I made these gift tags from a Target kleenex box by tracing some little circular thing I had around and cutting with scalloped scissors. Then I added eyelets and painted the backs. The one with Mark’s name on it has a circle of tracing paper glued to the center so I could write on it.
