* house!

After >10 years of living the migrant scientist lifestyle + a year of house-shopping, this is ours:
Expect more home project posts! And probably more crafting in general since I don’t have to spend every Sunday going to open houses any more. Well, except now we have to move o_O
It’s got wonderful enormous walls, which is one reason I’ve been collecting art and art ideas. Also, if you’ve got recommendations for modern home blogs, leave ’em in the comments.

The other art book reminded me that I forgot to post this. Found on my summer conference/seminar travels at the Oxford Modern Art Museum bookstore: Nigel Peake Maps. I had a hard time deciding between this one and Sheds, and now I kind of wish I’d gotten both. Luckily there’s a ton of stuff on his website.
I like the color use + hand-drawn look + geometric details.

I already have 2 orangyporangy skirts, and now I have 3. Couldn’t resist the big sale she was having last week and got an opal one in this cute bird pattern. The part that peeks out the bottom is actually a full slip.
I love her skirts so much. They’re the kind of skirts that strangers stop me on the street to compliment. And they’re super comfortable and well-made.

Weird that I didn’t have an Art category on craftlog yet. Maybe I will go back and retag some of the relevant old posts, you know, with my copious free time.
Anyway, here’s one of my recent favorites: Jason Polan, whose work I originally saw and loved on 20×200. I’d been going back and forth on which print to get, and then saw his Every Piece of Art in the Museum of Modern Art Book, which is exactly what it sounds like. Now I’m trying to decide if I can get up the nerve to cut any of the pages out to put up. Probably not, haha, but there’s always the scanner.
I love the OCD of drawing everything and the sort of assemblage style with lots of little images crammed together. I’ve actually got a little collection going of similar art and photos and cards that I’ve found here and there, and I’ve been thinking of trying to make something similar stylistically myself (again, with my copious free time) for reasons that I will reveal next week if all goes well (ooooh). The sketch-y style also appeals (e.g. previously and another favorite artist).

Just what I need, another craft gadget to lust after. Lifestyle crafts is coming out with a (relatively) cheap and easy home letterpress kit. They have suspiciously few zoom photos to tell quality, but the few they have look pretty good. You have to get specific plates from them with a limited range of designs, but I’m betting that could be hacked from the looks of it. Some of the reviews sound promising, to the point of causing distress among Etsy purveyors for potentially bringing their art to the masses. In short,

* spoonflower marketplace

The future is now. Spoonflower has apparently finally set up a way to buy other people’s fabric designs on demand, now in beta testing. I am sooo going to get some yardage of one of the sweetie pie press’s security blanket/envelope prints. She says this is one of a series, so I might wait to see which one(s) I like best before ordering.
Imagine, though, anyone can be a fabric designer now! I hope this leads to a golden age of fabric designs. I wonder what their profit-sharing deal is?
