* Cat Tent!
Posted on April 26th, 2007 by becket. Filed under Toys (cat and kid).
Hi – this is Becket. I’m over Maitreya’s place for another crafty get-together and we’ve decided that I needed to post something new. So, with my husband’s help, I made a cat tent. My husband had a passing fancy with sewing and so he helped me with this project. We made it from a pattern that I bought off eBay. The brown and orange fabric is very thick and did not require interfacing – I found it at IKEA (and, in fact, Maitreya was with me at the time…). My husband found the poles at Home Depot and used spray Krylon paint to turn them orange and match the color of the inside of the tent. It didn’t look like much – until we put the poles in – then Voila! – it popped into a perfect miniature tent! Jamie, our cat, likes to hide out in it – that is, when he doesn’t attack it. Cats are such appreciative creatures, aren’t they? :)

I love it!!! I keep seeing these tents! I wonder if my cat would actually use one? Good job. Your blog always inspires me – keep up with the posts!

What a great hideout! My cats would love that. Heck, I’d like a human-size one for naps.

I think that this tent would be nice,but a little too little of a tent for my cat!

What did you use for the poles? I want to make a cat tent, but I have no clue where to find the right poles. I don’t want to use the basket weaving material like the Simplicity pattern says.

I’m not sure what the poles are, but you could probably go to Home Depot or wherever and just look for plastic of similar flexibility. Good luck!

Help!! I made a tent too. It is kind of similar to yours. I can’t find anything to use for poles. I’ve checked Home Depot, Lowes, Michaels, Joanns and Ace Hardware. Any help would be great. Thanks
(P.S.) Good idea using thick fabric. It’s super cute.

I use 1/2 pex tubing for poles. You can find it at most hardware stores in the plumbing supplies. Other brands might work too – you want something that springs back straight when you bend it as the tension is what holds the tent up.

Hula hoops will work for poles. Most dollar stores sell them.
